About me

Growing up in the UK, I was the first in my family to go to University, where I studied International Business at Bristol, before embarking on a 20 year career in PR, sales and marketing. I cut my teeth in one of Europe’s most ambitious tech communications agencies where we rode the .com wave. After that, I joined what became a highly successful entertainment startup, working with the CEO to triple revenue and expand into the US and Middle East. I then ran business development and commercial operations for various UK marketing and sports agencies, before moving out to San Francisco to set up the US operation of a tech-focused event marketing agency.

Throughout, I've seen the good, the bad and the ugly in terms of how commercial strategies and decision making shapes small business success. From the big wins and frustrating setbacks to the personal anxiety and silver linings that came with Covid-induced redundancy. I use this experience to support those setting up and running, or working in, ambitious, growing companies.

This experience combines with my qualification as a coach, enabling me to be an effective 'thinking partner'. Together we navigate the various struggles that small, ambitious companies and their entrepreneurs face when striving to achieve their vision and goals.

"What are you doing to help the polar bears Daddy?"

I've been working with climate innovators for the last three years. This started when I was made redundant after Covid flattened the event marketing world and we had to close down the fledgling US business. My daughter, then 5, started asking about the environment and what I was doing to help. I’ve always been a concerned environmentalist, but this prompted me to look to be more proactive. So I started mentoring climate entrepreneurs and this opened my eyes to the immense potential of these purpose-driven companies. If only we could help them thrive. So, my contribution is to work with some of these amazing, fearless innovators, as a coach and sounding board, as they try to develop their visions into successful, scalable operations.

Outside of work, you'll find me with my wife and our two kids exploring the great Californian outdoors, mountain biking in Marin, or occasionally pretending to surf. And I love to draw animals as a way to wind down in the evenings.
